1. INTRODUCTION

ScrollStop ("we", "our", or "the app") is a doom scroll breaker application for Android devices that helps users manage their time spent on social media apps. This privacy policy explains how we handle information when you use our application.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. ScrollStop is designed with a privacy-first approach.

2. INFORMATION SCROLLSTOP DOES NOT DIRECTLY COLLECT

ScrollStop itself does not directly collect, store on external servers, transmit, or share users' personal information. All session data and statistics created within the app are stored locally on the user's device only. However, the app uses third-party advertising services such as Google AdMob, which may process limited technical and advertising-related data as described in Section 6. Specifically:

  • We do NOT collect your name, email, or contact information
  • We do NOT collect your precise location data
  • We do NOT access your contacts, photos, or files
  • We do NOT read the content of the social media apps you use
  • We do NOT create user profiles
  • We do NOT use third-party analytics services
  • We do NOT have user accounts or registration
  • We do NOT send your usage data to any server

3. DATA STORED LOCALLY ON YOUR DEVICE

ScrollStop stores the following data ONLY on your device (locally):

a) Session History:
  • Duration of each blocking session
  • Date and time when sessions started and ended
  • List of apps selected to be blocked during the session
  • Whether the session was completed or dismissed
  • Stored in a local Room database on your device
  • Never transmitted to any server
  • Deleted when you uninstall the app or manually delete them
b) App Preferences:
  • Language preference (English or Portuguese)
  • Notification settings
  • Default session duration
  • Custom alert messages you create
  • Dark mode preference
  • Stored locally using Android DataStore
  • Never transmitted to any server
c) Statistics & Streaks:
  • Daily minutes saved counter
  • Consecutive day streaks
  • Weekly and monthly aggregated data
  • All computed and stored locally on your device

4. ANDROID PERMISSIONS WE REQUEST

ScrollStop requires certain Android permissions to function correctly. Here is why each one is needed:

a) Usage Access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS):
  • Used exclusively to detect which app is currently in the foreground during an active session
  • This allows the app to know when you open Instagram, TikTok, or other blocked apps
  • We do NOT read the content of any app
  • We do NOT track your app usage outside of active sessions
  • No usage data is transmitted anywhere
b) Display Over Other Apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW):
  • Required to show the "TIME'S UP!" alert screen on top of the social media apps you are using
  • Only activated when a session timer reaches zero
c) Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS):
  • Used to display the persistent notification during an active session, showing remaining time
  • Used for optional session reminders and daily summary notifications
d) Foreground Service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE):
  • Required to keep the session timer running reliably in the background, even when the app is closed
e) Internet (INTERNET):
  • Used exclusively by Google AdMob to load and display advertisements
  • No user data from ScrollStop is sent over the internet

5. SOCIAL MEDIA APPS YOU BLOCK

When you select apps to block (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter/X, Reddit, Facebook, Snapchat, etc.):

  • ScrollStop only stores the package name of the selected apps (e.g., "com.instagram.android")
  • ScrollStop does NOT interact with, read, or modify any data inside those apps
  • ScrollStop does NOT communicate with those apps' servers
  • The list of blocked apps is stored locally on your device only

6. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

a) Google AdMob:

ScrollStop uses Google AdMob to display advertisements (banner, interstitial, and rewarded ads). Google AdMob may collect certain information as described in Google's Privacy Policy:

Information that Google AdMob may collect includes:

  • Device information (model, OS version)
  • Advertising ID
  • IP address
  • General location (country/region level)
  • Ad interaction data

You can opt out of personalized advertising in your Android device settings: Settings > Google > Ads > Opt out of Ads Personalization

b) Google Play Services:

Required for AdMob functionality. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

7. REWARDED ADVERTISEMENTS

When you voluntarily click the "+5 MIN (Watch Ad)" button on the alert screen to extend your scrolling time:

  • You choose to watch a rewarded video ad served by Google AdMob
  • No personal data from ScrollStop is shared with the advertiser
  • The reward (5 extra minutes) is applied locally on your device
  • You may close the ad at any time, in which case no reward is granted

8. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

ScrollStop is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. The app does not contain any content inappropriate for any age group.

9. DATA SECURITY

  • All session data and preferences are stored locally on your device
  • The local Room database is protected by Android's application sandbox
  • No data is transmitted over the internet (except ad-related data handled by Google AdMob)
  • The app does not require an account or login credentials

10. DATA RETENTION

  • All app data is stored locally on your device only
  • Data is retained until you manually delete it or uninstall the app
  • We have no access to your data and cannot recover it
  • Uninstalling ScrollStop removes all session history, streaks, and preferences permanently

11. YOUR RIGHTS

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control:

  • View: Access your session history and statistics anytime in the app
  • Delete: Clear individual sessions or reset all statistics
  • Configure: Change permissions at any time through your Android device settings
  • Remove: Uninstall the app to delete all data completely
  • Opt out: Disable personalized ads through your Android device settings

12. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
